Commitment Rewarded: EmpiriStat President to be Honored by Alma Mater

EmpiriStat President and Principal Biostatistician, Dr. Nicole C. Close, recently received a surprise invitation to join the Juniata Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society founded in 1914 that recognizes the development of the whole person, both as a present member of the community and as a prospective contributor to a better society.
Each year, the Circle ODK invites an alumnus into membership as a way to honor their achievements and commitment to Juniata College (Huntingdon, PA). The current leadership was said to be enthusiastic in deciding to invite Dr. Close to join their honored ranks.
Dr. Nicole C. Close, born and raised in southwestern Pennsylvania chose nearby Juniata College for her undergraduate work due to the institution's strong science program. With her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology complete, Nicole went on to complete her Master of Science degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, Ohio), and her doctorate in Epidemiology at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Dr. Close credits the strong foundation she received at Juniata College for her love of science and success as a Clinical Trialist, Biostatistician and as a Woman Entrepreneur. She has stayed active in alumni programs and has maintained her commitment in helping mentor and counsel budding science leaders on their education and career paths by way of speaking engagements, mentorships, scholarships, and career fairs.
Having founded her own successful and much sought-after contract research organization, Dr. Close is a unique perspective for students to learn from. She has participated in many of Juniata College's Career Weeks, where she provided entrepreneurial talks, seminars, and one-on-one consultation sessions with students as well.
Juniata's motto, "think-evolve-act," is at the core of EmpiriStat, and Dr. Close expands upon these words every day in her business.
Since founding EmpiriStat, Dr. Close and her company have been the recipients of multiple awards and recognition, including the 2011 Best Place to Work in Frederick County (Maryland), the 2011 Entrepreneur Award (12th Annual Women in Technology Awards Gala), and the 2012 Small Business of the Year award (Tech Council of Maryland).
The Circle ODK will induct Dr. Close at an initiation ceremony in April at Juniata College's Liebig Center for Science.
