EmpiriStat and SCT: A Marriage Made in Biostatistical Heaven

EmpiriStat’s founder and president, Dr. Nicole Close rocked the Society for Clinical Trial’s (SCT) Annual Meeting for her 16th year of participation.  Sunny Miami, Florida played host for this, the 33rd year that SCT has brought clinical research professionals and students together, May 20-23, 2012.

Every year, SCT features prominent keynote speakers, invited sessions organized and presented by leading researchers on cutting edge topics, and the contributed poster and podium presentations by the rising stars in the field.  So it is no surprise that Dr. Nicole Close, a member of the SCT Board of Directors, is routinely requested to present and contribute.

Created in 1978, SCT is an international organization dedicated to the development and dissemination of knowledge about the design, conduct, and analysis of government and industry-sponsored clinical trials and related health care research methodologies.

This year, Dr. Close discussed her papers “Cross Training Within a Clinical Research Organization: Does it Work or Does it Muddy the Waters?” during the Trial Monitoring session and “Implementation of Digital Pen Technology to Capture Clinical Trial” during the New Opportunities in Data Capture session.

That Dr. Close would be invited to share knowledge on new technologies comes as no surprise to any of EmpiriStat’s partners or anyone following the company’s progress.  EmpiriStat has been on the forefront of technology in the research world since its inception in 2008.  In fact, in March 2012, EmpiriStat was awarded the Small Business of the Year Award from the Tech Council of Maryland (TCM).  TCM, the premier organization in the mid-Atlantic promoting the technological industry and creating an environment where technological companies can collaborate, grow, succeed and thrive, recognized that EmpiriStat has created and taken advantage of key technological advancements to best service the needs of their clients and partners.  Initiating use of the Digital Pen for Data Capture is only one example of EmpiriStat’s technological prowess.

Another SCT meeting under her belt, Dr. Close continues her long-established record of leadership in the world of Clinical Biostatistics and work to educate and mentor fellow biostatisticians.
