EmpiriStat Welcomes Senior Statistician and Avid Hiker Dr. John Klaric

John Klaric, a PhD Statistician, the latest talent to join EmpiriStat, Inc. is excited to start collaborating with EmpiriStat's clients and partners in the design and analysis of substantive, clinical research. A member of the American Statistical Association (ASA) and various psychometric organizations such as the National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME) and the American Educational Research Association (AERA), Dr. Klaric is equipped a with a wide-ranging wealth of expertise.

Born in Munich, Germany, Dr. Klaric was then raised in the Washington, D.C. area. Having received his Bachelor's degree from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, and his Master's degree from the University of Nebraska (Omaha), Dr. Klaric eventually went on to earn his Doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. For the past four years, Dr. Klaric has been a Principal Biostatistician for companies manufacturing in vitro diagnostic devices in the San Francisco Bay area. It is in this capacity that Dr. Klaric worked for Novartis Diagnostics prior to its divestiture to Grifols Diagnostic Solutions.

Prior to returning to school to secure his Doctorate, Dr. Klaric had collaborated with researchers at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. His research colleagues included medical clinicians, developmental epidemiologists, and experts in childhood psychiatric disorders, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). John credits his experience at Duke for honing his abilities in designing longitudinal experiments and appropriately modeling empirical results.

EmpiriStat attracted John's attention in offering a role that utilizes John's expertise in design and analysis of experiments, but in a very collaborative and exciting environment. "The role is challenging," John said, "designing methods to investigate testable hypotheses in different therapeutic areas has the potential to add significantly to my body of knowledge." He expounded further that," this position offers me the opportunity to lead a team of medical and statistical professionals as we examine the research questions brought by subject matter experts."

When asked about his goals for the future, professionally and personally, John responded that his foremost goal is to "collaborate fruitfully with scientists for the production of research reports." He feels that being provided the opportunity to manage junior statisticians for the implementation of meaningful statistics, adding that "on a personal level, I hope to meld cohesively with the individuals with whom I work."

While John and his wife have called Raleigh, North Carolina home since 1989, his work in the San Francisco Bay area has allowed John to take advantage of the trails there as he is an avid hiker, clearly fitting into EmpiriStat's motto of "working hard, playing hard." John also enjoys long drives along the Pacific Coast Highway, with its ample views of cliffs and wave-washed rocks.

EmpiriStat is excited to have such a dedicated and ambitious researcher as part of the team.
