EmpiriStat Attending World’s Foremost Heart and Lung Transplantation Specialists in Nice, France

Dr. Nicole C. Close, President and Founder of EmpiriStat, Inc., will embark on a trip to Nice, France to attend the 35th Annual Meeting and Scientific Sessions of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT), April 15-18, 2015, at the Acropolis Congrés Centre. Given EmpiriStat’s expertise and therapeutic and device background, this conference serves as an important building block for the company and many of their current clients.

Created in 1981 at a small gathering of 15 cardiologists and cardiac surgeons, the ISHLT is a “non-for-profit, multi-disciplinary, professional organization dedicated to improving the care of patients with advanced heart or lung disease through transplantation, mechanical support and innovative therapies via research, education and advocacy,” per the ISHLT website ishlt.org. It has grown to over 3,0000 members from over 45 countries, with members representing over 15 different professions involved in the management and treatment of send stage heart and lung disease. Despite different specializations such as ethics, cardiology, pathology, pulmonology, pharmacy and tissue engineering, all members seek to advance the science and treatment of end stage heart and lung disease.

The purposes of the Society are:

  • To associate persons interested in the fields of heart and lung transplantation, end-stage heart and lung disease and related sciences.

  • To encourage and stimulate basic and clinical research in these disciplines and to promote new therapeutic strategies.

  • To hold scientific meetings featuring presentations and discussions relevant to these disciplines.

  • To sponsor a scientific journal for the publication of manuscripts related to these disciplines.

  • To establish and maintain an international registry for heart and lung transplantation.

  • To award research grants and establish endowments for the study of these disciplines.

The glorious city Nice, France is of course a beautiful setting for the important work of this year’s Annual Meeting, which rightfully attracts international support from the pharmaceutical and other industries. The 2015 sponsors include Actelion, Bayer HealthCare, Heart Ware, Thoratec, Gilead, Astellas, CareDx, Maquet, Medtronic and Volkswagen Germany.
