Inspiring Science Professionals of Tomorrow: Dr. Close to Give NC Science Festival Keynote

The North Carolina Science Festival at the College of the Albemarle – Roanoke Island Campus in Manteo, North Carolina will feature a keynote from EmpiriStat President Dr. Nicole Close, who will also be presenting three sessions on statistics, as part of the festival’s “Create your Future with STEM (Science, Technology, Education and Math) Day on April 22, 2015.

The Manteo festivities, programmed by Dare County Schools, are part of a month-long, state-wide series of events created to expose high school students to a wide range of STEM careers and opportunities. Along with classroom presentations and tours, students will have a chance to meet-and-greet STEM professionals like Dr. Close, try out new technologies, visit the NC STEM Bus and participate in an engineering design challenge. Participants, further inspired by interactive displays in the EXPO and a live feed from NASA, will be presented with STEM volunteer opportunities.

The festival is expecting 300 students this year with a maximum of 20 students in each session. The focus of Dr. Close’s closing keynote will be to encourage students to “dream big, but not just dream...make things happen, think outside the box, study hard, don't be afraid of math and science! Find your passion.”
